Young gun to head iconic Kiwi hotel
A talented young gun has taken the helm of an iconic New Zealand hotel.
Andrew Cleverley took up the role of General Manager of Aoraki Mount Cook’s Hermitage Hotel this week following his return from Australia where he was General Manager of Cairns’ premier four-star Rydges Plaza Hotel.
Mr Cleverley, originally from Timaru, holds a Bachelor of Tourism Management from Lincoln University and has a comprehensive background in hotel operations, strategic planning and product development.
He initially joined the Rydges Hotel Group as a corporate cadet and underwent its intense 18-month training programme designed to fast track motivated individuals passionate about a career in hotels.
Mr Cleverley is delighted to have been chosen for the role and can’t wait to take on the new challenge.
“The Hermitage is such a well known and well regarded property. It has so many unique selling points – 125 years of history, a huge range of accommodation, activity choices to entertain for days and the most spectacular setting in a national park in front of New Zealand’s tallest mountain. I have to pinch myself when I look out the window at that amazing view every day!” he says.
