Bayleys attracts top real estate agent to its team

Leading real estate agency Bayleys has signed up one of Canterbury’s top performing sales consultants in a move which has bolstered Bayleys’ residential sales team and sent a strong message out to the market about the value of new marketing initiatives in the current economic climate.

Mark O’Loughlin joins Bayleys after some 11 years with rival agency Harcourts – where he was ranked the number one salesperson for the last seven years within the Canterbury region, and Harcourts number three in New Zealand for the last four years.

Mark O’Loughlin says the primary factors behind his move to Bayleys were the opportunities to expand his marketing reach to a far bigger audience, and the potential to become a shareholder in the fast-growing Bayleys Canterbury operation.

“The real estate market has changed markedly over the past 18 months – everyone is aware of that,” said Mark O’Loughlin, who has sold more than $250million worth of homes in the city during his career.

“The Bayleys brand, I believe, has adapted better to those changes and opportunities more than any other New Zealand real estate agency. For example, Bayleys’ expansion of its international marketing focus is visionary.”

Mark said that he was also looking forward to the prospect of being able to sell property city-wide rather than being constrained to tightly-defined boundaries as he had been with his previous company.

“New Zealand is now seeing growing numbers of migrants coming here for a variety of reasons – such as a better standard of living for themselves and their families, the attraction of open spaces and large homes, steady employment and business opportunities and of course the lifestyle.

“We only have a limited pool of resident buyers for New Zealand property, so by exposing Kiwi real estate to a much-wider global market – such as new immigrants from the UK and South Africa – the market is expanded exponentially.

“Bayleys’ has enormous international reach through such activities as its attendance at immigration expos and specific immigration-focused property magazines or its alliances with global property marketing alliances such as Christie’s Great Estates or Cushman and Wakefield.

“Property buyers in Christchurch are increasingly taking a ‘metropolitan’ approach to their expectations. For example, they may move from one side of the city to the other, or from the city fringe to a lifestyle block on the outskirts of town,” he said.

“My new role at Bayleys gives me greater freedom to not only list properties across the greater city area, but to also introduce my sizeable database of potential buyers to a far greater diversity of homes.”

With a strong and very loyal customer network of Canterbury property investors and residential real estate developers, Mark was eagerly anticipating introducing those contacts to the wider international market. Mark said he was also excited about the opportunity of eventually taking up an ownership role within the Bayleys Canterbury operation.

“I foresee a tremendous future for Bayleys in the Christchurch and greater Canterbury regions. Being part of this company as it races into a new era for property sales and marketing is like seeing a teenager mature into an adult,” he said.

Bayleys Canterbury chief executive Scott McCrea said Mark O’Loughlin’s addition to the Bayleys’ ranks would bolster an already impressive team of sales and marketing professionals in the region.

“In our early discussions with Mark, we were highly impressed with how closely his customer-services disciplines and passion for marketing initiatives matched those of the Bayleys brand,” Mr McCrea said.

“Bayleys’ international marketing expertise, combined with Mark’s outstanding reputation in the Christchurch community, have unified to become a powerful partnership.

“Bayleys’ marketing mantra is to maximise the value of our clients’ real estate assets. And with 11 years in the real estate profession – most of those as one of Harcourts’ top agents – Mark has certainly shown he can deliver on the Bayleys brand promise.”

Mark O’Loughlin said: “My clients will now have the world brought to their doorstep through Bayleys.”
