Mexican Rose Stars for Jupiter Stable
Karaka graduate Mexican Rose claimed a second feature race victory for Jupiter Stable when she toughed out her opposition in the S$200,000 Group 3 Singapore Juvenile Championship (1200m) at Kranji on Friday evening.

Mexican Rose too tough in the Group 3 Singapore Juvenile Championship

A tough competitor, Mexican Rose (Volksraad x Down View, by Gone West) jumped awkwardly from the gates and then had to be settled three wide just off the pace for jockey Saimee Jumaat.

Favoured by punters, Mexican Rose was always travelling and looked the winner rounding the final bend as she swept past the race leaders and kicked with her customary turn of foot to put a couple of lengths on the field 200m from home.

Always Certain (Not a Single Doubt) closed strongly but he could not improve upon the half length margin he was beaten at his last encounter with Mexican Rose, and thus had to settle for second ahead of another kiwi, Fuku Kitaru (Ishiguru), who stayed on well for third.

Mexican Rose's victory followed a week after Jupiter Stable's success with another Karaka graduate Given Vision (Belong to Me) in the last leg of the rich Singapore 3YO Challenge Series.

Run by Tang Weng Fei, Jupiter Stable secured Mexican Rose through trainer Laurie Laxon who purchased the filly at the 2008 Karaka Select Sale for $85,000 from Chesterfields. From an international family, Mexican Rose is the third winner for her young Gone West dam Down View. This is the family of Group 1 Arlington Million winner Mill Native (Exclusive Native) and Group 1 French 2000 Guineas placed French Stress (Sham).

·         This colt from Group 1 NZ Cup winner Soundoration is a half-brother to seven winners including stakes placed winner of nine Le Alto (Magic Of Sydney), also by a Danzig line sire.

Having now won four of her five career starts, Mexican Rose's only defeat came in New Zealand when she ran a game sixth in the $1,000,000 Karaka Million behind The Heckler (Lucky Owners). Her accumulated prize-money now totals close to $200,000.

The filly was bred by Mark and Caroline Todd in conjunction with UK-based Watership Down Stud. The Todds' Rivermonte Farm will offer two lots, a yearling and a broodmare, in the Supplementary Session of the 2009 South Island Sale.

2008 Bay Filly - Bachelor Duke x Chatwin (Shinko King) - Rivermonte Farm

·         Her second dam is Group 3 winner Peat, dam of Group 2 Concorde winner Travellin' Man, and grand-dam of smart two-year-olds Te Akau Class and Bridgestone.

2001 Bay Mare - Midnight Gem (Marju x Little Gem, by Night Shift) - Rivermonte Farm

·         A placed mare by internationally successful sire Marju, Midnight Gem hails from a family full of class international performers including leading sire and Group 1 winner Pentire and Shirley Heights, as well as Top European 2YO filly Divine Proportions and her blood-brother Whipper, winner of the Group 1 Prix Morny.
