Pacific Blue: On-Time Performance Of 90%

Pacific Blue Records Half-Year On-Time Performance Of 90% On Domestic Services


Friday 17 July 2009: Pacific Blue said its domestic flights in New Zealand achieved an average on-time performance (OTP) result of 90%* for the first six months of 2009.

The Christchurch-based airline began publishing its domestic on-time performance results on its website last month and remains the only airline in New Zealand to do so.

Latest figures show the airline achieved 88% on-time performance in June. In the other five months between January and May 2009 the figures ranged between 90% and 95% OTP.

Pacific Blue’s General Manager, Commercial, Adrian Hamilton-Manns, said the airline was pleased with its half-year result.

“New Zealand’s winter weather always causes some issues, especially fog, so while June was slightly down on previous months we’re very happy with the operational performance for the year so far.”

The airline said that despite the “bleatings” of other airlines no-one had yet taken up its challenge to also publish regular domestic on-time performance updates on their websites.

"The on-time performance measure we use of departing within 15 minutes of stated departure times is the international standard. All we ask is that other New Zealand domestic carriers make their on-time performance figures available so that consumers get a chance to compare results for themselves.”

* Pacific Blue On-Time Performance is measured as all domestic flights that depart within 15 minutes of their stated departure time with no exceptions made for bad weather, air traffic control, delays from suppliers, unscheduled maintenance, consequences of previous delays or anything else.
