Contractors’ Federation says Victoria Park will help get Auckland moving
The awarding of the contract for Auckland’s Victoria Park project will help get New Zealand’s largest city moving, and benefit the whole country, says the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation
The V Formation that won the New Zealand Transport Agency contract is due to start work on the project in four months. The consortium is made up of Fletcher Construction, Beca Engineering, Higgins Contractors and Australian consultancy Parsons Brinckerhoff.
“It’s exciting that Victoria Park is almost underway. The project is well overdue and will address SH1 traffic congestion issues at this bottleneck,” said Jeremy Sole, CEO of the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation.
“The Government has brought forward the spending because it is considered a route of national significance. It’s encouraging that the Government is serious about working with industry on improving Auckland’s infrastructure.”
The New Zealand Contractors’ Federation is extremely proud that two of its high profile and successful members, Fletchers and Higgins, have won this project
The Federation says the collaborative nature of the V Consortium with contractors, engineers and government agencies working together, demonstrates the unique and hard-won sophisticated nature of the infrastructure development industry in New Zealand.
“A number of recent projects, such as the Manukau Harbour Crossing, SH20, Northern Gateway, and the Dowse to Petone Interchange in Wellington, have shown the ability of contractors, engineers, and clients to work together on major initiatives.
“This unique New Zealand industry culture is a direct outcome of the Construction Contracts Act and the adoption of the world-leading NZS3910 contract form. Together these initiatives have set a level playing field and brought about significant collaboration and mutual respect and trust in the industry” said Mr Sole.
“The increasing volume of infrastructure development has also ensured the industry has the skills for this type of work. We must use those skills effectively for the benefit of New Zealand.
“Fletcher Construction, a leading member of the consortium, has the skills to deliver on this project. The company has long been one of New Zealand’s foremost contractors and has led the construction of many of New Zealand’s major infrastructure projects over the past 100 years, including world leading engineering and construction of Auckland’s Sky Tower.”
