Young business owner receives leadership award

Press Release 30 July 2008

For Immediate Release

Young Auckland business owner receives prestigious leadership award

23 year-old Aucklander Nigel Fowler has been selected as a recipient for the 2009 Rotary Young Leadership Awards. RYLA takes youth from Auckland and the Pacific Islands who show leadership potential into their 7-day programme held at Eastern Beach. Nigel is being sponsored by the Newmarket Rotary Club to attend in July.

RYLA is an experiential live-in programme for 20 – 25 year olds. It is designed to develop their team work and communication skills, ultimately fulfilling their potential as tomorrow’s leaders.

Honoured to receive the award, Nigel said that “it provides a once in a life time opportunity to concentrate on developing myself as a leader. I will be able to use this experience in my business and in the communities I am involved with for the rest of my life.”

The talks and workshops given by community and business leaders will be invaluable to the West Auckland resident. “This will be an exciting week for me to network with peers and exchange ideas, opinions and experiences in discussion groups” he adds.

Nigel received a full tertiary scholarship from A.I.S. St Helens where he graduated with a degree in International Business. Choosing the path of an entrepreneur after graduating Nigel says “I love the fact that I can challenge myself while learning everyday. I work closely with a team of like-minded individuals to provide wellness and safety solutions for New Zealanders.”

Nigel is a director of Synergy Group NZ Ltd, a North Shore business manufacturing and supplying health products and technology. “We supply Alka Vita, a proprietary modified liquid silica to re-establish and maintain the acid / alkaline balance of the body. This assists in building a strong immune system and is even proven to help patients recover from MRSA, the antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria.” The company also manufactures Cellguard™ Phone Cards for mobile phone users to help reduce the effects of radiation on the body.

This year his company is a contender in the prestigious annual Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards, which honours local companies, their people and their extraordinary achievements in New Zealand business.

Nigel is currently starting an initiative to put money back into schools, communities and charity organisations so if you need to fundraise, Nigel is the person to contact. “Last year we raised $12,000 for the women and children living with HIV & AIDS in Papua New Guinea”. This was done through the NZ Health Industry Awards and Benefit Gala 2008, which Synergy Events, their subsidiary company organised.

Nigel says “I’ve had many mentors and leaders influence my life with their teachings. From a very young age I’ve benefited from the guidance of my basketball coach, teachers, and lecturers. RYLA will be another invaluable learning experience.”

What does the future hold for this successful, energetic entrepreneur? He aims to set up a scholarship programme for youth to evolve their unique potential. Nigel states “now it is my turn to give back for what I have received, and teach what I have experienced.”
