New Zealand Contractors’ Federation hails North Shore infrastructure plan

The New Zealand Contractors’ Federation has welcomed North Shore City Council’s “proactive” move to fund its infrastructure development.

The council is seeking Auckland Transition Agency approval for the city’s biggest capital works programme.

Federation Chief Executive Jeremy Sole said the council had clearly learned from observing the mistakes of the1989 Auckland governance transition which resulted in a hiatus of several years in work programmes and major delays in infrastructure development.

“It is positive that North Short City is thinking and working proactively to ensure the development of essential infrastructure needs as we move toward and through the transition phase,”said Mr Sole.

“While there is a rates rise planned in association with this, the public generally understands and ultimately accepts such increases if they are given due warning and where it is shown to be supporting essential services and infrastructure – so long as the council is seen to be prudent in its spending across the board.”
