HANZ Backs Paymark's Independent ATM Initiative
The Hospitality Association of New Zealand (HANZ) has applauded Paymark, New Zealand’s leading electronic payment services, for the successful introduction of more than 284 Independent ATMs in the past 12 months.
The fleet of Independent ATMs have already processed well over 200,000 transactions in dispensing $17 million. Paymark launched the pilot phase in mid-2008. The machines are independent of bank-owned machines and charge a nominal convenience fee to cover the cost of the transaction.
HANZ Operations Manager, Scott Necklen, says; “These machines provide significant advantages for merchants – they cut down service time in transacting, take out any risk of human error in giving cash back, increase traffic in store and deliver yet another valuable customer service offer.”
“We have received a lot of interest from merchants regarding an independent ATM – particularly those in more remote locations and smaller towns. Nightspot owners also see merit in providing a cash service solution that is secure and comfortable as well as convenient for customers.”
Paymark CEO, Simon Tong, adds; “The Independent ATMs are shaping up to become a brilliant success story - they have been hugely successful in smaller towns, rural locations and tourist spots. The network brings cash services to convenient locations that are geographically closer to the average Kiwi.”
Paymark spent two years working closely with its partners, ATM Plus Ltd and NZ ATM Ltd, to ensure the Independent ATM experience is safe and easy, and the resulting pilot phase has been a phenomenal success.
Customers from Westpac, BNZ, TSB, Kiwibank and Rabobank are currently able to use Independent ATMs. Discussions are continuing with other card issuers to connect their customers to the network.
