KOREA-NEW ZEALAND BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE OPENS IN SEOUL

A Korea-New Zealand Business Roundtable opens in Seoul today, Tuesday 9 June 2009, the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and the New Zealand International Business Forum (NZIBF) announced.

KITA Chairman Dr Il SaKong said that the Roundtable would focus on the potential for expanded co-operation between the two countries.

“Korea and New Zealand are complementary economies.  The Korea-New Zealand Business Roundtable will look at new opportunities for business growth both between us and more generally in the Asia Pacific region.  We are looking forward to hosting this event and welcoming the New Zealand delegation to Seoul”.

NZIBF Chairman Graeme Harrison said that the Roundtable would bring together around 70 leaders from business and the wider community as well as government representatives from both countries.

“Korea is already a major trade and investment partner for New Zealand.  This is a good opportunity for business leaders from both countries to explore a way forward for this important relationship particularly as negotiations toward a free trade agreement get underway.”

Business sessions at the Roundtable will focus on expanding co-operation in the areas of “green growth” and information and communications technology as well as contribution the FTA could make to economic recovery and regional trade liberalisation.

The Roundtable will be co-chaired by Dr Il SaKong and Mr Harrison.  The agenda for the Roundtable will include presentations from Korean Trade Minister HE Kim Jong Hoon and New Zealand Trade Minister Hon Tim Groser. 

The programme commences Tuesday 9 June with an evening reception and continues on 10 June. Attendance at the Roundtable is by invitation only.
