HRINZ steps in to host Edward de Bono seminar

The Human Resources Institute of New Zealand has stepped in to host a special seminar by Edward de Bono, one of the world’s most famous business thinkers.

Major events company Red Carpet had originally set up the half-day Thinking for Change seminar, to be held at Auckland’s Sky City Convention Centre on June 18. But the firm went into liquidation last week.

Keri Bloomfield, HRINZ General Manager Operations, said: “Edward de Bono is a hugely influential figure in the field of business thinking and corporate training internationally.

“The seminar has generated a great deal of interest and we are very pleased to be able to be able to take over as hosts and ensure this unique, stimulating and valuable opportunity goes ahead.”

Edward de Bono, who lives in the Channel Islands, is originator of the term lateral thinking and is widely regarded as the world’s leading authority in the field of creative and conceptual thinking.

Forbes has rated him one of the top 20 business thinkers in the world today, and one of 200 people who have contributed most in the world to date.

His methods are widely used in business, particularly in the restructuring of corporations to allow more flexible working practices and in corporate training designed to help employees and executives to think outside the box.

His proven methods provide a deliberate, systematic process to develop innovative thinking and empower people by adding strength to their natural abilities, improving teamwork, productivity and profit.

The seminar is designed for business people and educators at all levels and whose input is required for problem solving and decision making. It will be particularly beneficial to individual contributors and teams working in highly competitive environments.

Mr de Bono will tell the audience that recession means change and that it is time to stop focusing on the recession and start thinking for change because now, more than ever, we need to know how to think more, logically and in new ways and develop innovative methods of looking at information and designing the way forward.

Using a mixture of teaching and practical exercises, he will take the audience through the use the use of different approaches to organisational problems. They will explore all aspects of each situation and generate alternatives that go far beyond obvious solutions.

The Human Resources Institute of New Zealand is the professional organisation for people who are interested or involved in the management and development of Human Resources.

The seminar will run from 9am-12.30pm.
