Immediate gains from budget insulation initiative

The manufacturing and merchant chain of the building industry sees immediate gains in employment and activity in the industry from the insulation initiative in the budget.

Building Industry Federation Chief Executive Bruce Kohn said today that 11 new jobs in the insulation manufacturing sector were directly attributable to the initiative, as well as at least 14 in the housing installation sector.

“Further employment gains are probable in coming weeks.

“This is a proven formula internationally for industry activity and employment stimulation. It is a significant move for improving the health and quality of the country’s older housing stock, as well as a boost to energy conservation.

“We expect that a soon to be marketed home assessment rating tool that allows homeowners to make a DIY analysis of the energy performance of their home will give a clear indication of the attractiveness to them of the insulation and heat pump subsidy package.

“The merchant chain will be a key element in marketing home energy improvement packages that incorporate the levels of subsidy coming available and the benefits home owners may obtain.”
