Tomizone Launches In India With Reliance World
Wi-Fi will be available at Reliance World outlets following Pilot
Auckland, 22 May 2009 – Tomizone, the largest Wi-Fi service provider in Australasia, announced today that it has signed an exclusive agreement to provide its Wi-Fi services across India at Reliance World outlets following an initial Pilot in Bangalore. Reliance World is a world-class nationwide chain of retail outlets for products and services.
There are currently 242 Reliance World outlets across 105 cities in India designed to enhance the customer digital experience. Reliance World, as part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, is one of the top three Indian private sector companies with over US$80 billion market capitalisation.
Reliance outlets give customers access to digital information, communication, entertainment and utility services through the Internet as well as retails products like mobile phones, data cards and other associated communications products.
Steve Simms, CEO of Tomizone, says that Wi-Fi Hotspot users at Reliance World outlets will enjoy the speed, convenience and freedom of using their own Wi-Fi-enabled device, which is also becoming increasingly important for major corporate customers of Reliance.
“Daily demand for Wi-Fi at these stores is high, and India has a complex regulatory environment that made in-store public Wi-Fi access difficult until a Tomizone powered Wi-Fi Hotspot was available.
“Tomizone’s expansion into India has been steady and precise. India has high standards for cyber law compliant Wi-Fi services and Tomizone can help grow this sector into a sustainable business and useful service,” says Simms.
Simms explains how Tomizone helps in India’s regulatory environment: “Tomizone has deployed its VIRGIL system in the initial tests for Reliance World. VIRGIL ensures the user’s identity and usage is associated to a Wi-Fi session, which is a ‘Cyber law’ requirement as governed in India by the Information Technology Act 2000.”
Previously Reliance corporate customer users would have to forgo using personal Wi-Fi devices and only use Internet terminals within a store, creating potential security concerns. Now Reliance customers can use their Reliance login, or create a new login, to use the Tomizone powered Wi-Fi Hotspot on their own laptop or device.
Tomizone has been expanding its business operations in India for over 12 months under the leadership of Girish Hiremath, the Head of Tomizone’s India operations.
“India is very receptive to Tomizone’s products and services and we’re pleased that Tomizone has been chosen by Reliance to enable customers to enjoy the freedom of Wi-Fi Internet. With an estimated two million Indian laptop users, who use Wi-Fi at home, the office or at public places like airports, hotels and cafes, we expect users and hotspot owners to benefit from Tomizone’s unique platform,” says Hiremath.
