Auckland Design Company Picks Up Yet Another International Design Award In New York
Auckland based multidisciplinary design company, Alt Group’s string of international award successes is continuing, with four pieces of the company’s work this week selected as winners in New York’s prestigious 365: AIGA Annual Design Competition.
The 365: AIGA Annual Design Competition, which celebrates the best international design work of the previous twelve months, recognises exciting new work in communication design, including packaging, branding, advertising, corporate communication, typography and illustration and entertainment.
The competition is widely regarded as the most discerning statement on design excellence, extending a legacy that began more than 90 years ago.
This year, over 3,800 pieces of work from throughout the world were submitted into the awards, with just 182 pieces singled out as worthy examples of outstanding design.
Judged by a distinguished jury of professional designers, winning works not only feature in the AIGA’s Annual, but will also become part of the AIGA Design Archives (http://designarchives.aiga.org) and travelling exhibitions which debut at the AIGA National Design Center in New York.
Alt Group took home three of the four 365: AIGA Annual Design Competition accolades for the much lauded Hudson Gavin Martin project, for which they have already won a slew of international awards including a coveted Gold Cube at the ADC (Art Directors Club) Awards in New York, a Certificate of Typographic Excellence from the Type Directors Club (New York), and a Silver and Bronze Pencil at the One Show Design Awards, held earlier this month.
Bold, bright and atypical of what you’d expect for a law practice, the Hudson Gavin Martin project (which was based around the concept that all good things come in threes), saw Alt Group design and develop everything from the boutique intellectual property and technology law firms’ branding and collateral, right through to a corporate artwork collection and unique promotional gifts.
In addition to picking up three accolades for the Hudson Gavin Martin project (identity campaign, ©h®is™as giveaway and corporate art collection), Alt Group also won recognition for their work for iconic Kiwi furniture design company, Formway and their US licence partner Kimball Office.
Their fourth piece of work to this year be selected in the 365: AIGA Annual Design Competition was the HUM Research book, a 40,000 word book that the design group wrote and produced about the creative development of the HUM – Minds at Work furniture system, an innovative award-winning workspace system designed by Formway which is sold in the United States by Kimball Office.
The latest accolade comes just weeks after Alt Group picked up a multitude of international awards, including prizes at New York’s ADC Awards (a Gold Cube, two Bronze Cubes and a Merit); the One Show Design Awards (a Silver and a Bronze Pencil and two Merits); the Webby Awards (Best Associations Award) and the UK’s D&AD Awards (an In Book nomination).
