Unified Messaging Services for Asia-Pacific Telcos

News Release

Unisys Launches New Unified Messaging Services for Asia-Pacific Telcos

Enables APAC telcos to offer subscribers innovative products that combine fixed, mobile and data messaging into converged services

Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) announced today the launch of its fully converged messaging service, integrating fixed, mobile and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunications to support the New Zealand, Australian and Asia Pacific telecommunications market.

The service, part of the Unisys Messaging Bureau, enables telecommunication service providers to offer their subscribers products that combine their fixed and mobile and data messaging requirements in innovative new converged messaging services. These include a single voice mailbox that combines messages left on separate VoIP, mobile and fixed phones, and a web-based tool to access and manage fax, voice and email messages in one inbox.

Telecommunication service providers can use the Unisys Messaging Bureau as an outsourced application within their own branded products. The new Unisys solution provides a cost-effective way for telecommunication companies to modernise applications, and the flexibility to offer innovative services tailored to their customer needs For example, small business customers, such as a real estate agent who is always on the move, could use the single mailbox for fixed and mobile calls to keep up to date with incoming calls, faxes, appointment bookings and messages that are sent to their mobile or office phones, including VoIP devices.

Similarly, a telco could opt to provide customers with a powerful online converged messaging service to access and manage voice or fax messages over the web when they are roaming or off the network.

“The new solution uses some clever Unisys technology to allow voice calls arriving on either a legacy voice network or a next generation data network to be seamlessly controlled and efficiently managed to provide the converged messaging service,” said Ms Sue Carter, vice president, Commercial Industries, Unisys Asia Pacific. “The hosted applications available in Unisys Messaging Bureau take advantage of our strong heritage providing messaging services to the telecommunication sector, and our strength in application modernisation and outsourcing. In addition, the technology is underpinned by high levels of service assurance and performance from a dedicated team of highly experienced messaging experts who support and operate the Messaging Bureau from our local Unisys Telecommunications Centre of Excellence in New Zealand.”

The Unisys converged messaging service is part of the comprehensive Messaging Bureau of hosted application services that Unisys offers to telecommunication companies across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Drawing on almost 20 years experience in messaging services, and expertise from the Unisys Telecommunications Centre of Excellence based in New Zealand, Unisys Messaging Bureau integrates creative third party innovations with secure, highly reliable business messaging applications that are used by some of the largest telecommunication companies across the globe.
