Milestone Homes has reached a milestone of its own. The company has helped its 200th Kiwi build an affordable quality home in New Zealand.

The 200th customer is 19 year-old truck driver, Troy Slater, who is “stoked” with his new three bedroom home in Huntly, which he shares with his girlfriend Katherine Short.  

“The best thing about building with Milestone is that I could afford to do it. I bought five acres of land from my parents and shopped around looking for the best home building option,” says Troy. “With Milestone I was able to build a quality house within my budget, allowing me to get onto the property ladder – something I had thought impossible,” says Troy.

Troy says the process was made easier because they made all the decisions up front and after living in it for three weeks now, there is nothing that he or Katherine would change about the home.

“We had a look through the Milestone plans and could see ourselves living in one of the three bedroom homes,” says Troy.  “We then worked with the Milestone team to make our choices on the design, colours, carpets and other features at the beginning of the building process. It was really easy to pick what we wanted from Milestone’s six colour options, so there were no unexpected hassles or surprises later down the track. One of the most important things to me was a design with a double garage so that I could safely house my two babies – my classic cars!”

Milestone Homes General Manager, Stephen Murray, says building the 200th Milestone home is definitely something to celebrate.

“We know that for many New Zealanders building their first home is a big step – a milestone in fact – so we do everything we can to make it easier to reach,” says Stephen. “It’s not often that 19 year-olds can own their own home, let alone build one. We were only too happy to hand Troy the keys and help him into his first home.”

Troy and Katherine are now taking the time to work on the landscaping and plan to celebrate their new house in style with their friends and family.

“We’ve already had a mini-housewarming but we are looking to hold a larger one in the next month or so,” adds Troy. “I’m looking forward to showing off my new home.” 

Milestone Homes currently has 60 affordable house designs, and aims to increase this to 70 plans by the end of 2009.
