News. Current Affairs with a Different Perspective

Media Release

For immediate release: 04 May 2009

News and Current Affairs with a Different Perspective

This month Rhema Broadcasting Group, the country’s largest 100% New Zealand owned private broadcaster, will roll out a suite of redesigned news and current affairs programmes as they continue their mission to ‘educate, inform and entertain’ New Zealanders. This hardworking team of reporters present news and current affairs, often from a different perspective than their commercially driven or state competitors.

“We have been delivering news and current affairs on-air and on-screen for almost two years and during that time we have learnt a lot about producing and delivering news on television. From the beginning we have had the objective of presenting news with truth and grace so our audiences have access to family-safe news broadcasts that assist them in making sense of what is happening in our world,” says Rhema Broadcasting Group CEO, John Fabrin.

Starting 4 May 2009 Shine TV will broadcast the news headlines on the half hour throughout the evening between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

“This is news for those who can’t catch a full news programme. It’s not a promo or teaser for the news – it’s a series of short news updates, concise and to the point,” says John Fabrin.

For those who want a more in-depth half hour weeknight news programme, Nzone Tonight will continue on New Zealand’s Rhema at 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

Nzone Tonight features a full round-up of the top news stories of the day, as well as business and sports news and the weather. The final segment of the show includes interviews, comment and special reports on current issues,” says John Fabrin.

Splitting current affairs out from the nightly broadcasts has allowed RBG to produce a new current affairs programme which will be launched on 22 May 2009. Broadcasting on NZ’s Rhema and Shine TV it will bring listeners and viewers the stories and people behind the headlines.

“Throughout the week people often don’t get time to take in more than the important headlines of the day. Our new current affairs show will allow our news team, and our viewers and listeners, a little more time to process some of the important stories,” says John Fabrin.

RBG says it is committed to reporting the news with compassion, caring, grace and truth.

“We are always looking at what we can do to help us fulfill our mission to educate, inform and entertain New Zealanders. Delivering news and current affairs programmes on our radio and television networks, and now developing our capacity for online media are all priorities for us,” says John Fabrin.

You can watch Shine TV on SKY Digital Channel 111 - Christchurch UHF 56 - Nelson UHF 44 or watch it online – www.shinetv.co.nz. For your local NZ Rhema frequency visit their website, www.rhema.co.nz
