Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Appoints OMD for Media Planning & Buying

Auckland, 1st May 2009: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced that as part of a region wide media review and ongoing efforts to improve advertising media performance and efficiency, it has appointed OMD to handle media planning and buying for SCEE’s business in key PAL territories, including New Zealand, subject to final contractual agreements.

The decision follows a pitch of the media supplier arrangements that was undertaken in February 2009 and was managed in collaboration with Billetts Media Consulting, London, UK.

“I am delighted to announce that OMD have been appointed as our media planning and buying agency,” said David Reeves, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.  “Throughout the pitch process, they showed a clear understanding of our business and our goals and I feel confident that they will help us to continue to establish PlayStation as the entertainment brand of choice throughout Europe and the PAL territories.”

Locally this means that Starcom, after four years of work on PlayStation in New Zealand, will hand over the reins to OMD. David Hine, Sales and Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment NZ Ltd, had this to say about the new media planning and buying arrangements. “We are excited to have OMD joining the PlayStation team and we look forward to working with them to take the PlayStation message to the next generation of gamers and entertainment lovers.”

“However we would also like to take the opportunity to say thank you to the team at Starcom for their hard work and acknowledge the excellent work that they have consistently delivered over the years.”
