Ten Freshman Sires Hit Karaka Next Week

New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale from 4 - 6 May will see the first weanlings of 10 exciting young sires grace the Karaka sale ring.

A total of 336 weanlings, plus four supplementary entries, are set to go under the hammer on Monday and Tuesday of the sale with the supplementary offering following on at the conclusion of the main weanling session.

Danger Looms (AUS) 2002 (Danehill - Diamonds Forever, by At Talaq)
Standing at Ashford Park, Palmerston North. 2007 Fee: $2,500

Danger Looms was amongst the best two-year-olds of his year in Australasia. His victories as a juvenile included the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes and the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude, and as a grandson of Danehill, buyers can expect a level of precocity from his progeny.

Lot 244 - Bay Filly - Danger Looms x Barbela Ransom (Red Ransom) - Ashford Park Stud

·         Hailing from the Mary Poppins family this filly born October 6, is out of a mare by Onemorenomore's sire Red Ransom, who in turn is out of five time winning Zabeel mare Barbela.

Darci Brahma (NZ) 2002 (Danehill - Grand Echezeaux, Zabeel)
Standing at The Oaks Stud, Cambridge. 2007 Fee: $30,000

Himself a sale-topping yearling, Darci Brahma sold through the Karaka Sale ring for NZ$1.1million. He went on to salute the judge in five Group 1 races spanning his two, three and four year old years in New Zealand and Australia. The imposing son of Danehill's latest chapter sees six of his first weanlings set to be offered at auction next week including:

Lot 207 - Bay Colt - Darci Brahma x Valley Court (Pompeii Court) - Esker Lodge

·         This is a half brother to Group 1 NZ Derby winner Hail, Group 1 Australian Derby placed Braeloch (Prized), and three-year-old Naval Escort (Montjeu) who contests this Saturday's Group 1 South Australian Derby.

Fast 'n' Famous (AUS) (Redoute's Choice - Zalinda, by Zabeel)
Standing at Waikato Stud, Matamata. 2007 Fee: $15,000

A dual stakes-winning son of sire sensation Redoute's Choice, Fast 'n' Famous is from the stakes-winning daughter of Zabeel, Zalinda. She is the daughter of Group 1 ARC Railway Stakes winner Alynda.

As well as his six wins from 13 career starts, he finished second in the Group 1 AJC Galaxy Handicap. Eleven weanlings from the first crop of Fast 'n' Famous will be sold at Karaka starting Monday including:

·         A filly with plenty of residual, this filly is a half sister to six winners including Group 3 winner Danziga (Danasinga), being out of Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas fourth Khairleigh Khairleigh is also a half sister to Escada, the dam of Group 1 sprinter Glamour Puss and recent dual Group 1 winner Vision and Power.

Gonski (AUS) 2002 (Danehill - Abonnement, by Marauding)
Standing at Darley, Victoria. 2007 Fee: $7,700

A stakes winning son of Danehill, Gonski had speed to burn . He won his only start as a juvenile and in his short racing career defeated nine Group 1 winners including Stratum, Perfectly Ready, and Red Dazzler. He's a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner Recast (Thunder Gulch), being from the Marauding mare Abonnement.

Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) 2004 (Danehill - L'On Vite, Secretariat)
Standing at Coolmore Stud, Australia. 2007 Fee: $44,000

Crowned Champion 2YO Colt in France,  this dual Group 1 winning son of Danehill hails from the same female family as Encosta De Lago and Flying Spur who have both been crowned Champion Sires. Such is the strength of his family his full sister Millanova sold for AU$5million last year.

Holy Roman Emperor was retired early to take the place of the infertile George Washington.

Lucky Unicorn (AUS) 2002 (Redoute's Choice - La Bamba, by Last Tycoon)
Standing at Cambridge Stud, Cambridge. 2007 Fee: $8,000

Cambridge Stud based Lucky Unicorn is by Redoute's Choice and from the Last Tycoon mare La Bamba, making him a half-brother to Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint winner Inspiration. He raced successfully in Hong Kong and Australia including winning the Listed VRC Chester Manifold Stakes.

·         This filly born October 23 is out of a full sister to dual Group 2 Cups winner Kerry O'Reilly, with all three of her siblings to race being winners including Grand Affair who has won four  to 2008/09. O'Reilly is of course the broodmare sire of Daffodil, and is doing a superb job in a broodmare sire capacity.

Standing at Brighthill Farm, Hamilton. 2007 Fee: $12,000

A sprinter of the very highest quality, Pefectly Ready won Group races at age two, three, and four where he capped his career with first place in the premier Group 1 SAJC Goodwood Handicap. The smashing looking jet black entire is from the family of Group 1 Golden Slipper winning filly Belle du Jour, and he is of course by Australasia's hottest young stallion More Than Ready.

·         This is the third foal of seven time winner and Group 3 placed Grovana, herself a daughter of NZ Filly of the Year Impasada (Imposing) who counted the Group 2 Royal Stakes and Group 2 Desert Gold Stakes amongst her finest victories.

Standing at Stoney Bridge, Karaka. 2007 Fee: $5,000

Royal Gem is one of the few available sons of Group 1 Breeder's Cup winner Royal Academy available at stud. A Group 3 winner of the Bay Meadows Derby at three, he will look to join fellow Royal Academy son Bel Espirit as a prolific sire of winners across Australasia in the coming years.

·         An early foal born September 12, this colt is a half brother top Singapore performer Dylan (Cape Cross), a winner of five including a third in the Listed Singapore 3YO Challenge (second leg).

Sirocco (ARG) 1998 (Shy Tom - Ma Lettre, by Mountdrago)
Standing at Archer Park, Pukekohe. 2007 Fee: $1,500

The Argentinan bred Sirocco spent his racing career in Hong Kong before standing at Cherie Archer's Archer Park in Pukekohe. A sound galloper, he performed to record seven victories and 17 placings. He is from the stakes winning mare Ma Lettre while his sire Shy Tom is a half-brother to Hennessy.

·         This colt is a direct descendent of Group 1 winner Amerigo's Fancy, as is triple Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva. His dam is a half sister to Gropup placed, and six time winner, Sand Hawk (Sandtrap).

Standing at Little Avondale Stud, Masterton. 2007 Fee: $500

Regally bred, Little Avondale Stud's Zed is by Zabeel out of the Group 1 winning Danehill mare Emerald Dream. Recording one win over 1600 metres in a short career, Zed's female family has left successful racehorses and sires Kaapstad, Octagonal, Danewin, Commands, Don Eduardo, and Viscount.
