Chuan Spa opens at The Langham, Auckland
The exquisite Chuan Spa at The Langham is
now open and destined to become Auckland’s ultimate urban
oasis while setting a new benchmark in spa excellence for
New Zealand.
Offering unforgettable spa treatments such as a Tri-bathing Ritual which includes a snail shower*, ice experience** and herbal steam rooms, Chuan Spa is an opulent retreat away from the outside world providing signature health and beauty treatments based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
The newly built NZ$4 million Chuan Spa facility has six treatment rooms, individual and dual suites, a heated outdoor infinity pool and jacuzzi, relaxation lounges and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. Matched with the exceptional service that is to be expected from The Langham, it will undoubtedly make the hotel even more of a destination than it already is, says Jeffrey van Vorsselen, Managing Director of The Langham.
“The Langham experience is highly regarded so we are delighted to welcome Chuan Spa as we further enhance the range of five-star services we provide. The design of Chuan Spa has been previously unseen in New Zealand, the service level and holistic spa journey not experienced before and the innovation we bring with Chuan Spa has the potential to put Auckland on the map for international spa travellers.”
Chuan Spa will offer more than 30 specialty spa treatments combining the finest traditions from the east and west with exclusive Chuan experiences, based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and working alongside Thalgo products. Chuan is the Chinese word for flowing water and this is reflected throughout the design of the spa on the second floor of the 410 room hotel.
Chuan Spa innovations include a treatment for travellers dealing with jet lag, common for long haul visitors to New Zealand, a Ming Facial using gold magnets on the skin to increase stimulation and reduce skin ailments and a range of Chuan massages, wraps, scrubs, facials and TCM treatments with a qualified TCM consultant.
Accompanying Chuan Spa, two opulent Oriental inspired residential suites or ‘Havens’ have also been launched to support the Chuan Spa experience when staying at the hotel. The ‘Havens’ are available only when booking Chuan Spa accommodation packages and are designed to provide the ultimate Chuan Spa experience from start to finish.
“People might think that in this economic climate launching a luxury spa brand is an interesting move,” says Mr van Vorsselen. “But what we have in fact done is create ten new jobs and bring an international spa and hotel experience to the doorstep of Aucklanders and New Zealanders. This is at a time when we are being encouraged to holiday in our own city and country. A visit to Chuan Spa will feel like a true getaway which I think will prove popular with both hotel guests and day spa visitors alike.”
Development and investment in the hotel is continuing with the upcoming refurbishment and extension of The Langham’s Rangitoto ballroom.
“While Chuan Spa is a further jewel in our crown, it is not the final one,” says Mr van Vorsselen, who will oversee The Great Room at The Langham project which is a 1200 seat capacity ballroom intended to replace the current facility. The Great Room at The Langham will open fully in February 2010.
*Snail showers – Form the first part of the Chuan Tri-bathing ritual which is undertaken at the start of a treatment. The complimentary Tri-bathing ritual features an array of wet facilities to exploit the body’s reaction to hot and cold stimuli to encourage deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well being. Snail showers are circular in shape and the design allow jets of warm water to loosen and soothe tightened muscles.
**Ice experiences – Form the second part of the Chuan Tri-bathing ritual. Fountains of ice are used to refresh and exhilarate the body helping to open the pores and increase circulation.
