Rookie real estate agent earns top honours

Just over a year ago when Felicity Scott started as a real estate salesperson with Bayleys, many experienced salespeople were wondering what on earth was happening to the real estate market as the dynamics were all changing.

But for Felicity - who has a business degree with a sales and marketing background - it was uncharted water. So she just put her head down, and got on with the job of exceeding her clients’ expectations.

That grit and determination has paid off as Felicity was recently named Bayleys ‘Rookie of the Year’, decided across 11 offices in the wider Auckland area. The award is presented annually for ‘Outstanding performance in the first year with Bayleys Real Estate’.

Based in Bayleys’ Maritime Square office and concentrating on property in the greater Ponsonby area, Felicity sold more than $10 million of property in 12 months… a feat which has impressed her manager Rachel Dovey.

“Felicity is incredibly disciplined and has the right attitude. She doesn’t get distracted or sidelined by trivial things, and has great communication with her clients. The past year has been a very testing one for salespeople and I applaud Felicity’s ability to rise above it and to get significant property deals done,” says Rachel Dovey, residential sales manager for Bayleys Central.

“Felicity’s success goes to show that there’s plenty of business being done in the market place by those who focus and are prepared to put in the hard yards.”

Not one to seek publicity, Felicity is quietly rapt with her highly-coveted award and admits that she hopes people will really take her seriously now.

“I am a pretty determined person and when I set my mind to something, I go out there and do it. Sure, the market has been challenging in the past year or so, but I haven’t known any other market -so for me, this is the real estate reality and I am in it for the long-term,” explains Felicity.

“I haven’t taken the knock-backs personally – I respect the fact that people have their reasons for making certain choices, and this market has seen some really important decisions being made. I just say ’next’ and carry on.”
