People traveling less, good for our
roads and retailers this Easter
“With the recession we’ve been told people are going away less. That was really evident this Easter with free flowing motorways and busy local shops,” says head of the Newmarket Business Association.
Cameron Brewer said Newmarket was busier than expected on Easter Monday, a place that typically clears out for long weekends and school holidays.
“Electronic transactions provider Paymark has been telling us that people are spending much less on travel and accommodation. That was evident this Easter around Auckland. Seemingly many people chose to stay home which has been good for our roads and great for our local retailers,” says Mr Brewer.
“We’re also expecting a lot of families to forgo their overseas winter holidays this year. That will also be helpful to local retailers and domestic tourism operators,” said Mr Brewer.
