Kiwi Mobile Phone Application Wins Two Awards In International Developer Competition
A mobile phone
application developed by New Zealand technology company
Altaine (www.altaine.com) has taken out two awards in the
worldwide MOTODEV Widget Developer Challenge.
SUBWAY Express™ won first place in the Best Local Content for Europe/Middle East/Africa category and second place in the worldwide Best Widget for Shopping category.
When originally launched into New Zealand in 2006, SUBWAY Express™ was a world first for the quick service restaurant sector. The Motorola awards further endorse this innovative product which was also judged the Best Mobile Application in last year’s TUANZ awards.
SUBWAY Express™ was the first of a new wave of applications from Altaine, which allow consumers to quickly and easily select and order their favourite meals from their mobile phone. Mobile phone orders are integrated with existing SUBWAY® point of sale equipment which also provides multiple in-store operational efficiencies. Success in New Zealand has sparked interest among many SUBWAY® restaurants internationally with a pilot under way in the UK and deployments in other countries expected later this year.
Altaine CEO Warren Tobin says, “SUBWAY Express™ provides a glimpse of some very exciting applications that are coming from Altaine and the endorsement from Motorola confirms that we are at the forefront of the mobile wave.”
The MOTODEV Widget Developer Challenge recognizes independent developers who are tapping into the new mobile lifestyle to satisfy customers' desire for real time information and "right now" experiences.
