Murder Burger ‘World First’

Murder Burger ‘World First’ Super Gourmet Double Beef Wild Boar Bacon Burger

To cater to the latent hunter-gatherer in everyone, Ponsonby’s Murder Burger has introduced a Super Gourmet Double Beef Wild Boar Bacon Burger using genuine wild boar fresh from the Kaikoura ranges.

Murder Burger General Manager Tony Moffat said that the burger has proved to be a surprising hit with women.

“I don’t know why we’re surprised, except that I guess we thought that wild boar would be a ‘guy thing’. Shows how much we know, but what we do know is that they are moving out of the store quicker than a wild boar hearing a chopper and the opening bars from Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries,” said Tony Moffat.

“When these blokes approached us with an offer to supply us with wild boar bacon we couldn’t say no. And after looking at the helicopter they use to go and get the “little bastards” (genus: sus scrofa) from the bush outside of Blenheim, we felt obligated to help them by giving them money to help with chopper maintenance.

“Supply has proven to be a little bit erratic, and we apologise in advance to anyone who comes in specifically for wild boar bacon and gets told, ‘we haven’t got any’.

“But, if we can’t make you a Super Gourmet Double Beef & Wild Boar Bacon Burger ($14.90), which is definitely worth making a special trip back for, we do have a lot of other stuff on our menu, including the absolutely unique Meat Salad, which contains chicken tenderloins, free range bacon and lamb French cutlets, and nothing else.”

Murder Burger uses only free range and ethically farmed meat and animal products in all its products.

“As far as we know, we are the only ‘fast food’ brand to provide free range products in all products as ‘standard.’ We believe that free range simply tastes better. We also use aged eye fillet in our meat patties, because top quality meat also tastes better,” said Tony Moffat.

“Our stand on only using ethically farmed and sustainably produced ingredients in everything has the added benefit of completely eliminating any unpleasant aftertaste should you find yourself ever thinking about the miserable life a caged chicken lives just to provide cheap eggs, for example.”

“We like to think fast food should not only actually be good for you, but allow you to sleep easier at night knowing there are companies out there that do actually care where your food comes from.

“Our thinking is simple: if we can build a business around supplying free range and ethically and sustainably farmed products then there will be greater incentives for companies to switch to these farming practices.

“And in the end we think that will be better for consumers, better for farmers because there is a price premium attached to these products, and better for New Zealand exports,” concluded Mr Moffat.

Murder Burger can be found at 128A Ponsonby Rd, opposite the old Mobil petrol station that was recently pulled down. Opening hours are every day from lunch til late. Except when it’s illegal.
