Nannies forced to prove their worth!
Nannies forced to prove their worth!
For Immediate Release:
Recent reports in the media have confirmed that the strong market position nannies have held over the last few years has finally come to an end.
The annual Nannytax wages survey in the UK, released in Jan 2009, has reported that nanny salaries in London, UK have decreased in the last 12 months, showing employers are in a strong position with every job opening attracting a number of suitable candidates. KiwiOz Nannies who has two offices in the UK and one here in Auckland is facing similar trends here in Auckland with nanny rates finally starting to decrease and level off.
There are fewer jobs available on the market, and as a result many nannies are approaching agencies for advice on how to get the ‘edge’ on other candidates in an increasingly competitive market.
“We see this as a positive result for both employers and nannies- more competition means standards are going up and nannies are once again having to seriously consider the benefits they can offer and how they can implement those benefits in their day to day work” reports Lisa Rutledge, owner of KiwiOz Nannies. We have also found that mothers are returning to work earlier than they expected as families find themselves urgently needing a second income. Even parents whose jobs are secure may find themselves working longer hours as pressure increases. In times like these a good nanny can really prove her worth by providing more flexibility and understanding of how circumstances can change for her employers.
The economic slowdown may be here for a
while, but parents will still need to work – and work
more, if they can find it – and good-quality, reliable
childcare will continue to be sought after. It’s more
important than ever, then, for nannies to push their
professional credentials. These are not times for resting on
past achievements; they must keep their skills up to date,
and a nanny who finds herself out of work could make the
best of it by taking the opportunity to do an extra course
and extend her skill base. It could be what closes the deal
in her next
interview.
