Screen Sector Collaboration an Exciting Step in New Zealand - Hong Kong Relations
The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the New Zealand and Hong Kong screen and digital entertainment sectors is a welcome development for the local industry according to the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The MoU was signed today in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong-based Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum.
“The screen and digital entertainment industry is one of Wellington’s most important and innovative sectors.  It is also cutting-edge in the way it continues to focus externally, as exemplified by this MoU,” said Chamber CEO Charles Finny.
“Cross-border collaboration is important to fully realise the potential of most business sectors and the screen and digital entertainment sector is no exception.
“The MOU will open up future opportunities for local businesses in digital entertainment-related activities in Hong Kong. It will facilitate the exchange of technical skills and ideas as well as increased investment.  Hong Kong has a lot to offer in these areas.
“The MOU will build on and reinforce the growing economic relationship between New Zealand and Hong Kong, particularly in the services sectors.  It epitomises the increasing international focus of New Zealand services sector businesses. Hong Kong is a services sector powerhouse and it is good to see the bilateral relationship develop in this way.
“The signing is also well-timed given the recent recommencing of negotiations towards a closer economic partnership between the two economies.
“The Chamber is keen to see the ongoing growth of the screen and digital entertainment sector as it continues to play an important role in Wellington’s economic development.
“We are pleased with the role Wellington screen industry participants, as well as Grow Wellington and the Wellington City Council, have played in the development of this collaboration,” Mr Finny concluded.
