Take A Voyage Through The Recession

Flight Centre, New Zealand’s largest travel retailer has today released the best value-for-money destinations around the world, ensuring Kiwis can still take a break in spite of the challenging economic situation.

Flight Centre’s spokesperson, Marie Pilkington said it is important for Kiwis to still have the option to take a holiday and believes it’s simply about taking a different approach during these times.

“Each year most Kiwis take a holiday either within New Zealand or abroad and we believe it is important to give Kiwis a range of options so they can still take their well deserved holiday again this year.

“We have researched destinations across the globe to bring Kiwis a range of options that will ensure their dollar goes further when they arrive,” said Ms Pilkington.

Ms Pilkington went on to say that despite the dip in the Kiwi dollar, many long-haul destinations are still popular due to the exceptional value to travellers at this time.

Flight Centre’s 2009 Travel Expos saw approximately 30,000 people visiting the three shows around New Zealand, the highest number of visitors since the expo’s inception.

“To have record numbers visit our expos, given the current economic climate, is an extremely positive result and a great sign for the travel industry this year. This shows Kiwis are still travelling and are interested in travel in 2009,” said Ms Pilkington.

Below are Flight Centre’s hottest destinations that provide Kiwis more bang for their buck during the recession.

Currently Asia is providing excellent value for Kiwi travellers as the New Zealand dollar still goes a long way in destinations such as Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Destinations also include:

Cambodia is an exciting destination in South East Asia and provides Kiwis with a range of options at incredibly reasonable prices. The cost of eating out is minimal while walking the streets and soaking up the atmosphere and rich culture doesn’t cost a dime.

Thailand has always been a favourite destination for New Zealanders and even now the Kiwi dollar is still buying great value here. Shopping and dining is extremely affordable and Kiwi travellers are able to stay in lavish accommodation at comparatively bargain prices.

Recent airfare specials to Eastern Europe makes travelling to Europe extremely affordable. Croatia, Poland and the Czech Republic all offer exciting sightseeing opportunities at affordable prices.

With a combination of great holiday packages, reasonably priced dining and shopping galore, Bali provides the perfect value-for-money destination.

With all meals, entertainment and most activities included whilst on board, cruising has become increasingly popular, giving Kiwis an all-inclusive holiday option. Choose from an amazing selection of destinations including Europe, Asia, Australia, Hawaii, the South Pacific or even the Mexican Riviera.

The currency in the Cook Islands is the New Zealand dollar, making it easy for Kiwis to budget their spending before they set off. The range of local restaurants across the island ensures a variety of price options that will suit all budgets.

South Pacific including Fiji, Samoa and Tonga host a myriad of resorts that offer meal plans which can be included in your holiday package. This is the ideal way to limit spending while on holiday as all meal costs are up front.

Quarantine regulations into the South Pacific allow a variety of food and grocery items into each country meaning Kiwis can also stock up before they go as opposed to eating out each night.

Our cousins in Australia always provide Kiwis with a host of holiday options to suit everyone. Airfares across the ditch have been the lowest in decades, making it easy for New Zealanders to jump across and take a break.
