NZ IT provides solutions for Malaysian hospital
NZTE Media release:
NZ Health IT software provides solutions for Malaysian hospital
12 March 2009: Auckland-based medical IT company Precept Health’s critical care information software system ICU Care is to be rolled out in one of the largest hospitals in Malaysia after being awarded a major contract with the Malaysian Ministry of Health.
Precept Health and its partners, including Microsoft Healthcare, have been awarded a NZ$20 million contract to provide a fully integrated hospital information system for Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Temerloh (Temerloh Hospital).
Temerloh hospital is a 500 bed public hospital situated about 150km east of Kuala Lumpur. The hospital was opened in 2004 and is a general hospital with emergency dept, general wards, intensive care units (ICU) and operating rooms. The contract will see Precept Health’s advanced clinical software tools being used by Temerloh’s acute care departments, including intensive care, cardiology and operating rooms.
Precept Health founder Tony Blomfield says that the contract comes three years after the company first began focusing on opportunities in South East Asia.
“South East Asia is a key market for us, and with the help of the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, we are now beginning to develop a real presence there.
“We have worked hard to establish solid partnerships with Microsoft Healthcare and GC RRITS, as well as with the Malaysian Ministry of Health, which have all been key factors in being awarded this contract.
“From a technology perspective, Temerloh hospital is a great fit for us, and our software solutions directly fitted their needs for better day-to-day and strategic management of their intensive care and cardiology units and operating rooms. We are really looking forward to working with them.”
The NZ$20 million contract was signed in late February in Kuala Lumpur, at an NZTE Health IT function to coincide with the HIMMS Asia-Pac conference being held in Malaysia.
New Zealand Trade Commissioner based in Kuala Lumpur, Grant Fuller says that Precept Health’s success in Malaysia is an indication of the growing interest throughout South East Asia in New Zealand IT solutions, in particular health IT.
“The increasing engagement between New Zealand Health IT companies and Malaysian companies and public health officials is an excellent example of the broadening relationship between our two countries, particularly in the services sectors.
“It is really exciting to see Precept awarded the Temerloh hospital project.”
Precept Health was one of a number of New Zealand health technology companies who were in Malaysia recently for the HIMMS Asia-Pac conference. In addition to the New Zealand Health IT function, NZTE also organised a networking event with Austrade featuring guest speaker, the Director General of the Malaysia Ministry of Health. Both events provided New Zealand companies the chance to meet potential business partners and health officials.
