Local Business Leaders Head Back To School

In a break from the corporate office environment, local business leaders will head back to school next Tuesday to get a firsthand experience of Kiwi Can, the successful values and life skills programme running in Te Kuiti Primary.

The school visit, Kit Wilson the Chief Executive of King Country Energy says, will be a great opportunity to see how their support of the programme as the founding sponsor in Te Kuiti and Ruapehu has benefited children in the community.

“As a local company, the future of our community is really important to us. We feel very proud to have had a part in delivering Kiwi Can to 1600 children in the King Country and Ruapehu districts.”

“King Country Energy recognises the huge value of Kiwi Can in improving the behavior and self esteem of children and there are benefits for the entire community as a result of the programme.”

Kiwi Can is the Foundation for Youth Development values and life skills programme delivered in primary and intermediate schools throughout New Zealand. The programme has been running in Te Kuiti Primary since 2002.

“Kiwi Can fits well with our school vision to do ‘our best always’ and the programme has become a core component in teaching our school values to students,” says Ken Miller Te Kuiti Primary School Principal.

“It’s fantastic to see students engaged and really excited to go to their Kiwi Can lessons each week.”

Kiwi Can is designed to broaden and enhance the learning experience provided by the school, with students attending weekly Kiwi Can lessons where they study themes such as respect and responsibility.

Lessons help increase their physical fitness, mental awareness and creative abilities and children are taught a can-do attitude to life.

Kit Wilson and Helen Peacock the Retail Business Manger for King Country Energy will attend a Kiwi Can lesson at Te Kuiti Primary next Tuesday the 10th of March at 9am. John Reeves from McDonalds Lime and Pete McGregor from Te Kuiti New World, also Kiwi Can local sponsors, will be in attendance as well.
