Carter Holt Harvey selects SAP BusinessObjects
Carter Holt Harvey has selected software from SAP BusinessObjects to provide standardised BI reporting and analysis tools to end users in the company’s Building Supplies Group. In a competitive tender Carter Holt Harvey chose a suite of SAP BusinessObjects information, discovery and delivery solutions including SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Premium, SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, SAP BusinessObjects Crystal Reports 2008, and SAP BusinessObjects Xcelcius Enterprise.
The agreement means Carter Holt Harvey is the first high profile SAP New Zealand customer to also opt for BusinessObjects since SAP acquired the company. Once deployed, the solution will integrate to both SAP and non-SAP data sources within Carter Holt Harvey providing enterprise reporting and business intelligence.
Carter Holt Harvey manufactures and markets a full range of wood-based building products.
Andy Wills, Business Intelligence Manager at Carter Holt Harvey, said that this is a strategically important decision for the business.
“Most of the Building Supplies Group had existing business intelligence software in place but they were disaggregated. We had too many solutions that weren’t well used, which meant we weren’t sufficiently leveraging our information assets across the organisation,” said Mr Wills.
“Our end users also preferred the usability of SAP BusinessObjects. For example employees will create their own reports without relying on the IT department to generate them, allowing them access to valuable information and enabling them to make better, faster decisions. We anticipate that standardised reporting will be one of the key business benefits for Carter Holt Harvey.
“Many of our users have prior experience of BusinessObjects. That existing expertise and familiarity with the toolsets will benefit us as we go through the implementation process,” adds Mr Wills. “We expect that BusinessObjects will give us greater visibility into the organisation, better decision making and will enable us to make the best use of our available resources as we standardise business processes and make cost savings.”
The agreement is also a significant one for SAP.
“It is a long term business intelligence programme which will roll out in both New Zealand and Australia,” says Graeme Riley, managing director, SAP New Zealand. “Carter Holt Harvey has long run SAP throughout their organisation and the additional insight provided by BusinessObjects will be contribute to optimal decision making in these difficult economic times.”
The project, part of a wider body of work involving SAP solutions at Carter Holt Harvey, is already underway beginning with the installation of infrastructure and software. Operational reports, analytics, and enterprise dashboards will begin to be delivered in the first quarter of 2009.
