Durning PR - Breaking the GLOOM

Durning PR - Breaking the GLOOM

Are you sick of reading about, or listening to, extremely negative media stories and comment about the economy, jobs, the value of your house (or lack of it) – in fact, just about everything that touches your daily life?

If so, then you are the exact people who can help, as we too are sick of all the negativity. Yes, it is tough out there, and there will be job losses, but let’s not turn it into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Here at Durning PR we are setting up our own set of GLOOMBUSTERS Awards. Instead of just being subjected to negative stories all the time, we want to flush out and publicise the positive things that are going on in society.

As an example, in a recent New Zealand Herald on-line edition of its Business Page, there was one positive story out of 24. Heaven forbid, it’s not that bad out there!

Instead of “Economy faring worst than predicted,” “House values dip in January.” “Your home’s worth less than you think,” “$3 billion hit to NZ economy,” and “Wave of liquidations hit Christchurch,” we will try and replace it with the likes of “Convita sales in good health,” “Luggage firm bags $60m Nashville deal,” “Syft hails breakthrough European contract,” “Retailing not as dire as some reports suggest.”

Isn’t it just so much easier and less stressful reading the second group?

So, how can you help? Well it’s easy.
• Tell us about the positive things that are going on inside your company or organisation.
• Tell us about other companies that you know are doing well. Or, get them to contact us.
• Send this newsletter out to as many companies and people as you know.
• And, at all times, don’t forget that the glass is half full and there is still plenty of positivity left out there.

And what next? Each week we will send you out our Honours Board of companies and organisations with something positive to report, and perhaps a small paragraph about them.

Do we turn this into some form of competition ladder, will there be some sector awards, will there be an overall winner, do we partner with someone like the Press, the Institute of Management and the like? All good questions, all unanswered at this stage. As Adam said to Eve, “you had better stand back, I’m not too sure how big this thing will get!”

“Your city and country needs you!” Contact us today at durningpr@durningpr.co.nz and we will put your GLOOMBUSTERS news on our http://www.gloombusters.co.nz web site.
