Pak’n'Save Wairau Given The Go-Ahead

-High Court Dismisses Progressive’s Appeal-

Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited is delighted with the decision of the High Court, which today dismissed Progressive’s appeal against the Environment Court decision, giving the go-ahead for the PAK’nSAVE Wairau Road supermarket on Auckland’s North Shore.

“The High Court has confirmed that the Environment Court got it right, allowing PAK’nSAVE Wairau Road to open,” says Tony Carter, Managing Director, Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited. “We are pleased we can now bring PAK’nSAVE’s policy of New Zealand’s lowest food prices to this part of the North Shore, giving customers a choice about where they shop.”

The Court’s decision found that the appeal by Progressive’s was ‘simplistic and an error of approach’.

Mr Carter says, “We want to open this store as soon as possible and are now working very hard towards a May opening date. The ongoing support we have received from people on the North Shore has been outstanding, they have been very patient and we look forward to giving them the second PAK’nSAVE they’ve so clearly demonstrated that they want, as well as providing 250 jobs for the local community.”

New Zealand owned and operated Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited has been wanting to open a PAK’nSAVE on the Wairau Road site for 18 years, and received resource consent to build the supermarket in October 2004.
