February 12 2009 issue of the BNZ Weekly Overview.
Welcome to the February 12 2009 issue of the BNZ Weekly Overview.
To help Kiwi businesspeople and householders make informed financial decisions by discussing the economy and its implications in a language they can understand.
This week’s Overview is far shorter than usual because I am in Paris taking a language course for one week – which basically means for the rest of my life I can say “One has studied French in Paris you know”
Thankfully data releases have been very thin on the ground in New Zealand this week while currency and interest rate markets have largely been in consolidation phase. No fresh news has emerged to alter our view which is that although there are some good insulating factors for the NZ economy the global situation remains extremely tentative and optimism cannot be warranted until the US housing market starts to improve. That probably won’t happen until much later this year.
