52 entries fo motoring industry ‘Oscars'

Media Release: 11 February 2009

52 entries for New Zealand’s motoring industry ‘Oscars’

52 vehicles have been entered in the 2009 AA Motoring Excellence Awards.

“The AA Motoring Excellence Awards have become the ‘Oscars’ of the New Zealand motoring industry, and provide a truly independent assessment of new vehicles for motorists,” says Stella Stocks, AA Technical Services General Manager.

The award categories this year are: small, compact, medium, large, executive, luxury, performance, small and large crossover cars. Environmental, motoring journalism, customer satisfaction and safety awards will also be presented.

This year’s judges are motoring writers Brian Cowan, Jacqui Madelin, Dave Moore, Richard Bosselman, Mike Stock and New Zealand rally driver Emma Gilmour.

Each of the vehicles will be assessed on its design, performance, dynamics, practicality, execution, value for money and safety.

“We are honoured to have some of New Zealand’s best motoring journalists judging the vehicles this year. Their task will certainly be an onerous and difficult one, but I am sure they will also enjoy themselves,” says Ms Stocks.

The 13 winners, including the 2009 AA Motoring Excellence Award Supreme Winner, will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in March.

The AA organises the Motoring Excellence Awards with the support of UDC, Vodafone, Castrol, EECA, Vero, The New Zealand Herald, Saatchi & Saatchi, and the Motor Industry Training Organisation.
