Alt Group picks up typography excellence award in New York
Auckland, February 10, 2009 - Auckland based strategic design company, Alt Group’s winning momentum looks set to continue in 2009 with their latest award of a Certificate of Typographic Excellence from the Type Directors Club in New York.
The Type Directors Club is an international organisation which is devoted to excellence in print and screen typography. Alt received the TDC’s certificate of excellence for their Hudson Gavin Martin project, an irreverent identity development for a legal firm which they completed in 2008, and which has already received a shaft of local and international awards.
Alt’s work will be included in the Annual of the Type Directors Club and will be shown at the 55th Awards Exhibition in New York. More than 1800 entries from 33 countries were received for the awards and only 215 were selected to be published in the annual. The winners will be included also in exhibitions which will tour cities in the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico Russia and Spain.
Dean Poole, creative director of Alt Group, said there is more to an identity than a fancy typeface. Utlising the restrained font, Helvetica, put emphasis on the language of the brand, which was, he said, “inspired by concrete and avant-garde poetry”.
The Hudson Gavin Martin project made playful use of concept of “three” such as Lock Stock and Barrel; Equities, Assets and Liabilities; Ready Willing and Able used on artworks through to the office environment and extended into print advertising.
Says Dean Poole: “We are honoured to be awarded a Certificate in Excellence by the Type Directors’ Club and particularly to have our work included in the annual, which each year becomes a must have collectors’piece for people interested in typography.”
Last year Alt Group won a total of 55 international and national awards, in their most successful year to date since the group was formed eight years ago.
