Lonely Planet proclaims "Bali is back"

The new edition Bali & Lombok guide has now gone to printer and will be officially released in April. Lonely Planet has been producing this definitive guide to Bali & Lombok for 25 years and this is one of our most successful titles. This new edition not only focuses on the traditional appeal of sun, sea and sand but commends the destination’s culture and people as well as the true ability of Bali to bounce back from a crisis.

Visitors to Bali in 2008 hit a near record 1.8 million for the year and Australian Tourism Arrivals increased by 48.4% vs. 2007.

Lonely Planet can help explain why travellers increasingly flock to this destination through a number of different approaches and angles utilising extracts from the guidebook, interviews with the authors (some of which are on location in Bali) and through selected imagery.

 Dow Jones' Goldberg to be Lonely Planet's new CEO
Matthew Goldberg joins Lonely Planet from Dow Jones, where he was Senior Vice President, Digital Strategy and Operations.
In that role, he led business operations at the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, which includes WSJ,com, MarketWatch and other associated mobile, video and interational websites.

"I look forward to the opportunity to work with a talented team to continue the company's leadership in print travel guides while growing the business by reaching new audiences across all relevant platforms and channels", said Goldberg.

Goldberg will be based at Lonely Planet's head office in Melbourne, Australia.

Tour D'Afrique update

Local riders for Lonely Planet, David Else and Quentin Fraye, have begun the second stage of the Tour D'Afrique, a gruelling cycle challenge across Africa which raises money and donates bikes to rural health workers in Africa.
The race is rated as one of the best cycling adventures in the world in Best in Travel 2009.

The cyclists for this stage will ride 1,592km from Khartoum to Addis Abbaba over 30 days.
