Fairfax appoints new editor for Sunday magazine

Fairfax Magazines has appointed Debbie Harrison as the new editor of Sunday magazine.

Harrison, who has been the deputy editor on NZ House & Garden for the past two years, started at Fairfax Magazines in 2004 to launch the weekly publication, Auckland Max.

Before that, she was the New Zealand editor of Girlfriend magazine and beauty editor at New Idea and NZ Weddings.

The 27-year-old says she is excited to take the helm at one of the country’s most popular magazines. “I am a huge fan of Sunday magazine,” she says. “The magazine attracts some of the best writers, photographers and illustrators in the country and I look forward to leading the team who produce Sunday with great passion each week.”

Considered to be one of the company’s brightest young editors and feature writers, Harrison’s experience and energy make her the perfect editor to take Sunday into its sixth year, says Fairfax Magazines’general manager, Lynley Belton.

“Sunday is now the fourth highest read weekly magazine in New Zealand and is loved by readers of the Sunday Star-Times for its smart and stylish stories. We know Debbie will continue to make Sunday a compelling read every week,” says Belton.

Debbie Harrison holds a Bachelor of Communications from Auckland University of Technology and recently completed a Certificate of Business at Auckland University through the inaugural Fairfax Media Leadership Programme 2008.

Former Sunday editor Emily Simpson, who resigned in December to spend more time with her family, will remain with the title as a part-time feature writer.
