Air New Zealand Sets New Sales Record

Air New Zealand's efforts to stimulate tourism and travel are paying dividends with the airline setting a new record for global online sales last week of NZ$34.3 million.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Rob Fyfe says he has challenged Air New Zealanders throughout the network to deliver innovative campaigns that will get customers travelling.

"Air New Zealand plays a critical role in our tourism industry and it has never been more important for New Zealand to be at the forefront of travellers' minds," Mr Fyfe says.

"Our teams across the network have been working hard to deliver great deals to our customers. Despite the public tightening their belts, people still know a good deal when they see it, and the figures clearly show the internet is becoming a preferred purchasing option for more travellers than ever."

Recent promotions which have proved extremely popular with customers have included the North American and London clearance sales, and the continued popularity of the grabaseat fares and new grabaseat Weekender deals.

Mr Fyfe says the new global online sales record breaks the old mark achieved just the previous week.

"We have set a new global online sales record for the second week running. This new record adds substantial growth of 21% on the already impressive record achieved the previous week of NZ$28.4 million."

Mr Fyfe says Air New Zealand continues to improve its online services, with significant developments over the past few months, to make it more attractive and easier to find and purchase flights and holidays through its website.

The New Zealand website alone set a new weekly sales record of $21.8 million. The previous record of $20.3 million has stood since two years.

Air New Zealand's newly renovated Domestic Airport Experience is also adding to the attraction for customers, who find it easier, faster and less stressful to move through the airport to board their flight.
