TAE purchases Aussie aviation service providers

Media release
11 December 2008

TAE purchases two well known Australian aviation service providers: Tenix Aviation and Masling Industries

Air New Zealand’s Australian-based aerospace engineering services company TAE has added to its stable of businesses with the purchase of well-known aviation service provider Tenix Aviation Pty Limited.

The acquisition follows the purchase of Masling Industries Pty Ltd in November.

Tenix Aviation is based in South Australia, while Masling Industries is located in Cootamundra, New South Wales.

Air New Zealand General Manager Technical Operations Chris Nassenstein said today the two purchases were part of Air New Zealand’s continued diversification.

“Both of these purchases represent the support by Air New Zealand to further develop and grow the successful Australian TAE operation that was started by Air New Zealand in 2000,” Mr Nassenstein said.

Tenix Aviation has been involved in the provision of aviation repairs and maintenance since 1964. It has a reputation for quality and a consistently high standard that has contributed to the creation of strong relationships with leading participants in general aviation and regional airline industries.

The business currently employs 60 staff and is headquartered at Adelaide Airport, South Australia. In addition, Tenix Aviation has a presence at Parafield Airport, South Australia and Darwin, Northern Territory.

From today, Tenix Aviation will be known as TAE Aviation and will continue its successful aviation maintenance facility providing gas turbine, airframe, avionics, propeller component and spare parts services.

Masling Industries is a well-established operation specialising in component overhaul and repair of gas turbine engine accessories for helicopters and up to medium sized aircraft from its workshops in Cootamundra, New South Wales.

Masling Industries currently employs 11 people and TAE’s purchase will ensure continued growth of this business in Cootamundra under the Masling Industries brand.

TAE General Manager Andrew Sanderson said that both Tenix Aviation and Masling Industries were an excellent fit with TAE and complemented its existing businesses.

“Both companies are well known within the Australasian aviation industry for their high standards of engineering within their field on aircraft and aircraft components and we intend to keep it that way,” Mr Sanderson said.

“These two investments represent a significant step forward in TAE’s strategy to accelerate growth in our aerospace services businesses. TAE looks forward to continuing to provide exceptional service to the Australasian aviation industry through our established capabilities, now enhanced with the addition of Tenix Aviation and Masling Industries.”

TAE is a leading engineering services provider, and Australia’s leading military gas turbine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operation.

It offers a comprehensive range of design, engineering, maintenance, advanced manufacturing and repair services to the aerospace and defence industry. Headquartered in Brisbane, TAE has steadily grown through organic capability enhancement and acquisition

Now employing more than 300 staff across Australia, its aviation engineering service solutions cover gas-turbine engines, passenger and military transport aircraft, fast-jets, helicopters and general aviation aircraft.

TAE is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air New Zealand Limited.
