Go Bus open to weekend negotiations

Go Bus open to weekend negotiations

Go Bus has accepted the National Distribution Union’s (NDU) decision to back down from further planned strike action as a sign of good faith, and is willing to continue negotiating for a settlement over the weekend.

Go Bus Managing Director Calum Haslop says the lock out will remain in place until negotiations are sufficiently advanced as a protection for commuters against another change of heart.

“We accept at face value the NDU’s decision is a move in the right direction to achieve a good settlement for our drivers and Hamilton’s commuters. We are keen to negotiate all weekend if necessary to reach a settlement as soon as possible. However we are wary about another change of heart, which would cause a significant disruption to commuters so the lock out will remain in place for the interim,” Mr Haslop says.

“We have put plans in place over the last few days to ensure we have drivers on key routes, and we will stick to these at this stage. We’ve been very pleased to see a number of drivers quit the union in order to continue driving with us, and that has been an aid.”

“If a settlement is obviously within reach, we will then be in a position to overturn the suspension,” Mr Haslop says.
