Going, Going, Gone All In Aid Of Cure Kids
The David Reid Homes Buildathon house for Cure Kids went under the hammer this afternoon, on-site at the Royal New
Zealand Show in Christchurch.
David Reid Homes (Canterbury) built the house over two days at the Show, with the net proceeds from the sale of the home
going to Cure Kids.
The PGG Wrightson auction attracted a large crowd and bidding was strong, with a number of serious contenders bidding by
phone or putting their hands up for the house. The three-bedroom home eventually sold for $120,000.
David Reid Homes (Canterbury) Managing Director Kendall Langston says he couldn’t have asked for a better result.
“I’m a very happy man right now! The Buildathon has been a massive undertaking for our company, involving months of
planning. Everybody who has worked on this project is walking around with a huge smile on their face. It certainly makes
all the hard work worthwhile.”
The new owner of the home (who wanted to remain anonymous) is very happy with his latest acquisition.
Cure Kids is an organisation dedicated to helping young New Zealander’s with life-threatening illnesses. The money
raised by Cure Kids funds ground-breaking research and in many cases offers children the only real hope to finding a
cure for their conditions.
Cure Kids South Island Funding Manager Josie Spillane says she’s overwhelmed by the support from David Reid Homes and
the money raised from today’s auction will certainly benefit Kiwi families.
“Today’s auction was the culmination of months and months of hard work by David Reid Homes. The Buildathon has generated
so much publicity for Cure Kids and I feel very humbled by the money raised for us today,” she says.
““David Reid Homes’ decision to make us their charity of choice will go a long way toward helping us achieve our medical
research goals. Over 20,000 families in New Zealand live with a life threatening illness and their lives will be
enriched by the money raised from the sale of the Builathon home.”
General Manager of David Reid Homes (National), Ben Allan, says building homes for New Zealand families is what they do
best.
“Building homes for Kiwi families is in our blood so what better way to give something back than to build a house and
auction it, to raise funds for Cure Kids. Maybe in a small way we can help lighten the load for children with an
illness,” he says.
Ben Allan says the company couldn’t have achieved today’s outstanding result without the support of the many local
suppliers who came on board with the Buildathon.
“A huge thanks has to go to our Canterbury franchise for the considerable effort that went into the Buildathon. Loyal
local suppliers donated labour and supplies, which brought the costs of building the home down considerably. PGG
Wrightson’s came on board very early in the project and their real estate expertise and efforts were very much
appreciated,” he says.
“Everybody involved with the Buildathon deserves a huge pat on the back for a job well done. They have all played their
part in helping Cure Kids achieve its very worthwhile goals - ultimately finding the cures for those devastating
illnesses we wish families didn’t have to face.”
