Wellington Transport Coridor Plan a Good Balanced Outcome
The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the approval of the Ngauranga to Airport Corridor Plan by the
Wellington Regional Transport Committee saying it will improve the efficient transport of people and freight across
Wellington.
“This region has been considering this plan for many years now and its approval is a significant milestone in
Wellington’s economic development,” said Chamber CEO Charles Finny.
“The Wellington economy relies on an effective transport system to improve the flow of freight and people within the
region, and beyond. The Ngauranga to Airport corridor is a strategically important route both nationally and regionally.
“Wellington International Airport and CentrePort are both part of the corridor and the growth of the regional economy
hinges on the ability to access these essential pieces of infrastructure.
“Some components of the plan, such as the installation of new intersections to improve access to the Inter-Island Ferry
Terminal and CentrePort, are long overdue and should be implemented immediately.
“Other more significant components, such as the duplication of the Mt Victoria and Terrace Tunnels, understandably will
be some years away but must remain priorities for our region.
“A mix of investment in roads, tunnels and public transport is necessary to future-proof transport in the region and the
proposed plan is a good balanced outcome,” Mr Finny concluded.
