Jetstar Great News For Trans-Tasman Fliers

Jetstar Great News For Trans-Tasman Fliers, Says Travel Agency

The announcement of expanded services by Jetstar is great news for consumers, says New Zealand’s largest travel agency.

Andrew Stark, Flight Centre GM Product, says the Tasman is already a very busy market but believes there is still room for it to grow.

“More competition will mean lower airfares, which is great for consumers,” he says.

“That will stimulate more demand, and as other airlines match their competitors’ low airfares, there will be great deals to be had amongst several airlines.

Mr Stark says the best way to make sure consumers get the best fare for them is to see their travel agent – especially given the extra costs that can sometimes be attached to the airfares of ‘low cost carriers’.

“It’s important for consumers to realise that sometimes airfares do not include everything they might normally expect – like a full baggage allowance,” he says.

“That means that with all the extra charges added on, a cheap fare can sometime end up being the same, or even more, than another airline’s airfare.

“That’s where using a travel agent – to compare the full cost across many airlines – can save consumers time and money.”

Jetstar is introducing daily direct Auckland to Sydney and Auckland to Gold Coast services from 28 April 2009.
