InterCity challenges New Zealanders To Explore

MEDIA RELEASE

October 2, 2008

InterCity challenges New Zealanders to get out and explore their own country with the launch of TravelPass

InterCity launched a new ‘hop on hop off’ fixed itinerary version of its signature pass, TravelPass, yesterday in the hope that more Kiwis will take up the challenge of exploring their own country.

Enabling travellers to explore New Zealand with ease and at a price they can afford, TravelPass will bring together the most popular tourist routes that cover some of the best of what our country has to offer.

Using InterCity’s extensive coach network, TravelPass will offer travellers access to the largest transport network in the country and provide them with more freedom and flexibility to explore New Zealand at their own pace.

“TravelPass gives Kiwis another great option to explore all that our country has to offer without having the hassle of driving or the expense of today’s high petrol prices. For one very affordable price travellers can sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery aboard modern, comfortable, low-emission coaches designed specifically for New Zealand conditions.” says InterCity Group’s sales and marketing manager, Daniel Rode.

The new pass offers a collection of 17 fixed itineraries ranging from a minimum of one to 14 days and with prices starting from as little as $106.00. The itineraries are based on some of the most popular and iconic travelling routes throughout New Zealand and give travellers the opportunity to explore both main centres as well as off-the-beaten track locations. With routes in both the North and the South Islands there is something that will interest all types of travellers and tickets can be booked online through www.travelpass.co.nz.

Daniel adds: “Many New Zealanders have not had the opportunity to experience the best of what is right on their doorstep because it is too difficult and expensive to do so. TravelPass has made New Zealand more accessible for everyone to enjoy.

“The pass is also a fantastic option for individuals who want to go on holiday but don’t have anyone to go with. Rather than heading off alone, travellers can jump aboard one of our coaches and strike up conversations with like minded travellers both from New Zealand and overseas as well taking in our spectacular scenery.”

Travellers can choose anything from a short weekend trip to a longer 14 day holiday. There is no need to worry about cars, petrol, or even directions! TravelPass eliminates these common holidaying hassles.

The passes are structured around the domestic network of InterCity but some itineraries also include iconic sightseeing tours with Great Sights, trips on the Interislander ferry, a day tour to Cape Reinga with awesomeNZ and a not to be missed Milford Sound cruise.

Travellers also have the ability to make use of the broader InterCity network by diverting from the TravelPass itinerary into other areas of New Zealand.

“Whether it’s a summer sojourn in the sunny North or a winter wandering around some of the South Island’s most scenic destinations, TravelPass will get travellers places quickly and affordably. The pass has been designed to give travellers more freedom, so each pass is valid for 12 months from activation, meaning there is plenty of time to stop whenever and wherever you like en route,” says Daniel.

“TravelPass also offers travellers a high level of flexibility as it is possible to change a booking up to two hours prior to travelling. This means that at any point a traveller decides they want to extend or shorten their visit, it is possible to do so and then to resume travel and finish the trip when it suits them.”

More information on TravelPass can be found by visiting www.travelpass.co.nz or by calling InterCity on 0800 33 99 66.
