3 News And Campbell Live Show Strong Ratings Growth
3 NEWS and CAMPBELL LIVE have both made substantial ratings gains in key demographics during September.
In the important 18-49 demographic, 3 NEWS increased its ratings share from August by 7.3% to 36.7%, while One News had negative growth of -15.6%, taking its share to 29.2%.
In 18-49 Metro (the five main cities) 3 NEWS gained 13.1% of the audience share to 41.4%, against One News' negative -22.4% to a 23.5% share. The Auckland Urban demographic showed 3 NEWS grow by 25.9% to a 42.3% audience share, while One News had negative -31.4% to a 19.7% share.
In One News' key demographic of 25-54, 3 NEWS picked up 9.7%, bringing their audience share to 35.1% while One News dropped -14.1% to 34.8%.
CAMPBELL LIVE showed strong year-on-year growth to September in the 18-49 demographic with an 11.6% increase to 18.3%, against Close Up's 9.1% growth to 20.4%. In 18-49 Metro year-on-year figures, CAMPBELL LIVE grew 21.1% to a 23% audience share against Close Up's 13% increase to a 17% share.
Auckland Urban year-on-year figures show CAMPBELL LIVE's huge 39.3% growth to 24.1% of the audience share, against Close Up's 3.7% growth to 16.8%.
In Close Up's key demographic of 25-54 the year-on-year figures show that CAMPBELL LIVE has grown 5.8% to 18.1%, while Close Up has negative growth of - 0.4% and negative growth of -10.5% in the last month to 24.7%.
In 25-54 Auckland Urban CAMPBELL LIVE has grown 15.2% to a 21.2% audience share from August, while Close Up has had negative growth of -14.5% to a 20% audience share.
Mark Jennings, TV3's Director of News and Current Affairs comments, "Two key trends have emerged this month.
3 News is now on top in TV One's key 25-54 demographic and Campbell Live is killing Close Up in the big cities. I think our new hi-tech, multi-purpose studio set has been well received and our no-nonsense and independent approach to political coverage is winning viewers."
TV3 has also won the month of September across peak time programming in the 18-49 demographic with a 25.6% share, up 4.9% year-on-year. TV One had a 21.5% share, which showed negative growth of -3.2% and TV2 had a 23.6% share with negative growth of -4.1%.
