Kildonan Fourth Stakes Winner from 07 NZB RTR Sale
Kildonan Fourth Stakes Winner from 2007 NZB RTR Sale
Talented three-year-old Kildonan became the fourth stakes-winner from last year's New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale by winning the Listed Geon Bonecrusher Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.
Starting fresh up without a trial, Kildonan (Invincible Spirit x Game Lady by Lord Seymour) settled back in the field before dashing up the inside with the guidance of Andrew Calder to beat The Diamond Knight (Al Akbar x Diamond Show by Bigstone) and Al Qurhah (Stravinsky x Beleville by Danehill).
Owned by Ascot Farm's Bruce and Maureen Harvey and trained by Yves Seguin at the Cambridge track, the gelding is now unbeaten in his two career outings. His main aim will now be the Group 1 First Sovereign Trust Two Thousand Guineas on 15 November at Riccarton.
The Harveys enlisted Michael Wallace Bloodstock to secure Kildonan from the 2007 Sale for NZ$56,000 from Dean Hawthorne's Anzac Lodge.
Group 1 TJ Smith Sakes winner Rockdale (Danroad x Komplete Kaos by Desert Sun), Group 3 Taranaki RC 3YO Classic winner Ransom Express (Red Ransom x Diamond Hill by Danehill) and St Culpe (Rock of Gibraltar x Run and Hide by Ogygian) are the other three stakes winners to emerge from last year's Sale to date.
Meanwhile in New Plymouth, Gold Rum (Golan x Gold Class by Gold Brose) made it three from three when winning the Listed Taranaki RC Linepower Handicap (1400m) to keep his unbeaten record intact.
Trained by Graham Thomas, he held off a blazing challenge from Karaka Premier Sale graduate Abbey Way (Encosta de Lago x Forlorna by Nashwan) with Alpha Pukeko (Catbird x Let's Split by Royal Academy) finishing in third.
Abbey Way was a NZ$300,000 purchase by David Ellis from Tom and Shelley Murtagh's Esker Lodge draft in 2006.
Gold Rum will be represented by a half-sister by Thorn Park at the 2009 National Yearling Sales Series (26 January - 3 February). Her full sister was bought for NZ$68,000 by David Ellis at this year's Karaka Select Sale.
Abbey Way's half-brother by Reset is also entered in the Sale.
