Rockburn Winemaker a Finalist in Young Winemaker of the Year Competition

The Rockburn Pinot Gris 2007 and Rockburn Pinot Noir 2007 have earned Winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis a top ten finalist spot in The Australian Wine Society's Young Winemaker of the Year competition.

The judging panel commented that this was undoubtedly "the most outstanding line-up of any wines for some time - the fact that they were made by some of Australia's and New Zealand's most promising young winemakers is a testament to these gifted individuals."

Established in 2001, the Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year Awards recognise the extraordinary talent of Australia's and New Zealand's most promising young winemakers.

As one of the finalists, Rees-Francis is eligible for three accolades, to be awarded at a lavish dinner on 1 November 2008 at The Westin Hotel in Sydney:

- The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year
- The Wine Society Members Choice Award
- The Wine Society Sommeliers Choice Award

During September and October, 500 Wine Society Members in Australia will be afforded the opportunity to help decide which Wine Society Young Winemaker Finalist will win the Members Choice Award.

The top 20 wines of the 2008 Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year awards (2 from each of the 10 finalists) will be available for tasting in all of Australia's major centers.

Rees-Francis joined Rockburn Wines at their new McNulty Road winery in Cromwell for the 2006 vintage, having spent four vintages as assistant winemaker at Felton Road Wines.

While renowned for its award winning Pinot Noir, Rockburn also produces Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
