Harcourts chosen to auction house for Hospice Waikato

27 August 2008 - Harcourts Monarch Real Estate, which owns five Harcourts offices in Hamilton, has been chosen to market and auction a house being built and sold to support Hospice Waikato’s Building Appeal.

The five-bedroom house currently being built in the new Horsham Estate subdivision is expected to be completed in November, with an auction planned for early December following an extensive marketing campaign conducted for free by the Harcourts Monarch Real Estate.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards the completion of Hospice Waikato’s children and young people’s facility, Rainbow Place, and the construction of a 10-bed respite care centre at the palliative care provider’s new Hillcrest site.

Hospice Waikato Chief Executive Elizabeth Bang says the not-for-profit organisation is delighted to involve Harcourts in its latest fundraising initiative.

“They have the necessary skills, professionalism and track record of success and they also have an established relationship with Hospice Waikato having supported us regularly over the years including recently making a significant commitment to our organisation that will be recognised when we open the ‘Harcourts Library’ in our new complex.”

Harcourts Monarch Real Estate Co-owner and General Manager Brian King says he has a long association with Hospice Waikato, having been the auctioneer at many of the organisation’s charity auctions, and he is honoured Harcourts has been selected to assist with this special fundraising campaign.

“Since 1981 Hospice Waikato has been providing much-needed services to a wide range of terminally ill people and their families, all at no charge to them. Having the opportunity to support this valuable organisation and therefore the wider community by providing our expertise at no charge is both a privilege and a pleasure,” Mr King says, explaining that his team will be organising an extensive profile marketing campaign to promote the hospice’s house.

“The campaign will include organising significant print and online advertising and signage, direct marketing to Harcourts extensive database, working and negotiating with potential buyers, conducting numerous open homes and of course running the auction – all for free.”

Located at 17 Aquila Crescent, Horsham Estate on a section sold to Hospice Waikato at a cheap rate by developer Jon Webb, the house is being built by Jeff Downey of Downey Designer Homes, a locally-renowned company which has contributed a considerable sum towards the building costs and is working on the house for hospice with support from a range of local subcontractors and businesses who have donated goods and services.

The house design includes five bedrooms (or four plus office), a large kitchen with a separate scullery, two bathrooms, large living areas, a walk-in linen cupboard and three car garaging.
