Olympic Egg And Sppon Race At Arch Hill

Olympic Egg And Sppon Race At Arch Hill

Hi there,

It’s something akin to an Olympic egg and spoon up here at Arch Hill HQ, with the yearly cycle requiring a sprint to the year end. Along the way we usually throw in a bit of synchronised table tennis or rain soccer…just to make sure things aren’t too easy…and in that final sneaker to the metal we have…

- Surf City sign European Record deal with Morr Music
- Beach House and ticket stuff
- The Clean and White Swan Black Swan rack up the good reviews
- Heads up on a new album and single from the Buda.
- …plus more…?

Surf City Sign with German Label Morr Music
In November this year Surf City will be releasing the debut self titled EP on prestigious German label Morr Music , followed by their new album early in the new year. The deal is for all of Europe and Great Britain and will provide the support for the band to tour in that part of the world early in the New Year, plus a few cool little extras that we can’t quite talk about just yet. Other artists on that label include The American Analog Set, Lali Puna, Mum, Seabear and The Notwist.

In the meantime Surf City have a new single called Kudos which is already getting a good wring out on the radio, if you haven’t heard it already check the Surf City myspace page …and you can look forward to a release from them before the end of the year.

And if you missed some of their recent shows with Ladyhawk and others, then head along to the Kings Arms on 26th of September where they are playing with a couple of Auckland’s other choicest – Mean Street and Brand New Math

The Clean “Mashed and White Swan Black Swan “Double Mini” Reviews
Yep we’ve had a couple of recent releases getting the good word…and so some good reviews to file in the scrap book…

For The Clean “Mashed” Russell Baillie for the NZ Herald writes “…many of the old songs – Anything Could Happen, Point That Thing Somewhere Else, and the relatively youthful Too Music Violence – sound brighter and beefier in these live versions...The results rise way above being a you-had-to-be-there souvenir of a good night out” (4/5 stars) Grant Smithies writes in the Sunday Star Times “It sounds amazing, unique, brain fryingly brilliant” (4/5 stars) enough and Graham Reid writes in Elsewhere…”Kilgour's guitar just gets more mercurial and expressive over time (if sometimes pulling back from the edginess of previous decades) and Hamish and Robert create and ride these often oceanic surges of sound. But nuance is everywhere also. Magic at high volume -- and the version of Point That Thing here is a complex narrative in sound.”

For White Swan Black Swan Elsewhere also writes: "At heart however are utterly appealing songs which are deftly realised, beautifully understated and which sit neatly across a wide emotional and stylistic spectrum, but always sound like W/B Swan music”. A lot of repeat-play listening". Cheese on Toast also says "If this double-disc release from White Swan Black Swan is a sign of things to come, then things to come are super sweet.”

Look out for a September/October tour from White Swan Black Swan…announced soon.

Luke Buda Coming Soon…
Yes we said it last time and we will say it again, look out for the new Luke Buda album out in September…we will tell you a whole lot more about it shortly but we can promise you it features all the usual sweet beauty and sublime ridiculousness…first single is called “My Imminent Demise” – listen out on the radio or check Luke’s myspace page later in the week…we just gotta get the talented Lee Prebble to put some finishing touches on the master…

And in the rumors and heads up section…we may be seeing a new album from Don McGlashan before the end of the year…awrighty.

ends
