Businesses become own publicity experts
Businesses lacking the budget to pay PR companies are now becoming their own publicity experts, thanks to a Christchurch-based consultancy that trains people to get their own news coverage.
Seeking Publicity is run by former government press secretary and private sector communications manager, Peter Burdon.
He says big businesses have always had the budgets to pay PR companies or employ their own PR staff and this has meant they get all the media attention.
“But now our 3.5 hour seminars train small businesses to do this work themselves. Participants learn the tricks of the trade to do their own publicity and get some of that media attention that has always been left to their larger counterparts,” says Mr Burdon
“It’s not difficult to learn and every business has stories that would interest others. It’s a matter of finding them, packaging them and sending them to the right people. This is all covered in the seminars.”
