Introducing The Newest Member Of The Scott Family: 2008 Sauvignon Blanc
Leading family winemaker Allan Scott has just released its 2008 Sauvignon Blanc - it's a flavoursome blend of pineapple, passionfruit, and zesty citrus flavours combined with typical herbaceous notes.
Winemaker Josh Scott (Allan's son), says; "With all our vineyards now producing fruit, we're able to take full advantage of the individual characteristics of each particular vineyard. By utilising different soil types and vine age at particular sites we can obtain a mouth-filling profile of flavours from typical Marlborough herbaceousness to ripe tropical flavours.
Josh, who is also a keen rugby player, described this year's harvest as a 'game of two halves'. "The huge vintage saw lots of sun right up until harvest time, when it rained and rained, creating a logistical nightmare with the grapes ripe and ready all at once," he said. Luckily the winery is self-sufficient with its own harvesters, tanks and bottling facilities so was able to work around this to produce the best of what Marlborough can offer.
Later in the year Allan Scott Wines will be releasing its first organic wine, which is something Sara Scott (Allan's daughter) has taken under her wing to cultivate and produce. This year the family business has produced environmentally friendly bottle bags to encourage shoppers to create less waste when they buy their wine and introduced a nationwide native tree planting programme. Later this month they hope to get full accreditation as a Sustainable Winery, which means the Scott family will comply with sustainable practises both in the vineyards and winery.
The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc joins the family's diverse range of wines which are in strong demand both in New Zealand and overseas. Watch out for it in your local wine stores and supermarkets from July. RRP is $20.99 per bottle.
